As I sit down to write one of my first blogs on our newly designed webpage, I wanted to touch upon something that is deeply personal from my own life. While the academic setting is surely a very difficult and tumultuous environment, filled with competition and cut-throat behavior, being in science can surely be a rewarding experience if given the proper environment and tutelage that one deserves and also requires in an academic setting.
For myself, I have experienced scenarios, and heard from friends about the situations they’ve encountered that put their projects in jeopardy, or have altogether ruined their academic careers. While initially I was going to write about my own experiences (which i may still do), I wanted to begin by highlighting the stories of others. We have a list of those who were interviewed regarding their experiences in science. The stories we heard were at times heartbreaking.
